What exactly does FirstVest do?
FirstVest is a website and service for first home buyers and investment buyers looking at new house and land packages. We show you current packages, explain the land, design and build process, and coordinate your build with Dreamstart Homes. We don't provide financial, credit, tax or legal advice; for those, we can point you to licensed professionals.
If it's free, what's the catch?
It's a fair question. There's no fee to you, but you should know how we're paid. FirstVest is run by Richard Marsh, a sales consultant with Dreamstart Homes (part of the SSB Pty Ltd group). We're paid by the builder when you build with Dreamstart or the SSB group, so we are not independent of the builder.
Do you work with every builder in Perth?
No. In WA we work with one builder, Dreamstart Homes (SSB Pty Ltd group), which pays us when you build with them. That's why we know the designs, pricing and process well, but it also means we're not comparing every builder in Perth for you. For east coast packages we work with [EAST COAST BUILDER] in Victoria and Queensland. If what we offer isn't a fit for you, we'll tell you.
What if I don't have a big deposit?
We can't tell you how much you can borrow or whether you'll be approved; only a lender can. Some buyers use low-deposit options such as Keystart, the Australian Government's Home Guarantee Scheme or a family guarantee, and each has its own eligibility rules. Check the official sources in our grants section, or speak to a licensed mortgage broker who can assess your situation. This is general information only.
Should my first property be a home or an investment?
That's a personal financial decision, and we're not licensed to help you make it. FirstVest doesn't provide financial, investment or tax advice; for that, speak to a licensed financial adviser and your accountant. What we can do is show you packages, explain how building works in practice, and coordinate the build side once you've decided.
Will you tell me if a package is a good investment?
No. We can give you factual information about a package, such as the price, land size, design, inclusions and title timing, and explain the build process. We don't predict rents, yields, capital growth or tax outcomes (such as negative gearing), and we don't say whether a property suits your finances. Speak to a licensed financial adviser and your accountant about that.
How long does building actually take?
From signing to handover, most new builds in WA take anywhere from several months to more than a year, depending on the design, approvals and market conditions. We give you realistic timelines up front and keep you updated throughout.
